There are two papers in the written exam- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Questions in Paper 1 are asked from General Knowledge while those in Paper 2 are designed to test the psychology of the candidate.

- 1500 meters in 7 minutes (male)
- 1500 meters in 8 minutes (ex-serving)
- 400 meters in 2 minutes 30 seconds (female)

Physical Efficiency Test
- Male: Long jump, rope climbing, Running of 100m/400m
- Female: long jump, throwing cricket ball, running of 100m/200m
- Ex-servicemen: Long jump, Running of 100 meters.
