1932: Amelia Earhart was the first woman to take out a solo air flight from Newfoundland to Ireland over the Atlantic Ocean. It was a great boost to feminism. She proved that despite all the odds and conservatism, it's the hope and dedication that drives us to fly for 15 hours solo!!

  • ON THIS VERY DAY, on 21 May, In 1932, A 8.5-magnitude-carrying quake hit Valdivia, Chile.

1960: An 8.5-magnitude-carrying quake hit Valdivia, Chile. The earthquake resulted in devastating landslides. It caused the fall of the region's mountains, along with a series of tsunamis, which included a 26-foot wave that struck the coastal region of Chile. The earthquake resulted in a giant wave, leaving 5,000 people deceased and 2 million people losing ceilings over their heads. 

  • ON THIS VERY DAY, on 21 May, In 1991, Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi (Congress) was assassinated.

1991: Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi (Congress) was assassinated. A bomb exploded during election campaigns in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. At least 14 other people, along with Rajiv Gandhi, were assassinated. However, it was taken out as a result of a suicide bombing in the city of Sriperumbudur. It was had out by Thenmozhi Rajaratnam (also known as Kalaivani Rajaratnam or Dhanu), a member of the Sri Lankan Tamil separatist cult Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), along with Dr. Jagjit Singh Chohan. He was a member of the National Council of Khalistan (NCK). Moreover, Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala of the Khalistan Liberation Force was also found to be involved.

  • ON THIS VERY DAY, on 21 May, In 2005, Voters in Montenegro voted to denounce their union with Serbia. 

2005: Voters in Montenegro (Balkan state) voted to denounce their union with Serbia. The vote turnout was over eighty-five percent, with 55.4% of voters supporting independence from Serbia. The secession resulted in drastic economic and social consequences for both Serbia and Montenegro, and if Montenegro was to become independent. It marked the first time since the end of World War I that it was an independent nation now. 

  • ON THIS VERY DAY, In 1927, the first nonstop solo transatlantic flight was made.

1927: First nonstop solo transatlantic flight was made by Charles Lindbergh. American aviator Charles Lindbergh completed the first nonstop. It took a nonstop solo flight across the vast Atlantic Ocean, traveling from New York (US) to Paris (France) in the monoplane "Spirit of Saint Louis" in around 33.5 hours.
