The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Pune 411004 is an impartial organisation in compliance with the criteria of Maharashtra Act No. 41 of 1965. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education's nine Divisional Boards, which are situated in Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nasik, Kolhapur, Amravati, Latur, Nagpur, and Ratnagiri, are in charge of conducting the HSC and SSC Exams throughout the state. 21,000 secondary schools and more than 7000 junior institutions are located in the state.

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education was established as a statutory and independent organisation by the "Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act" of 1965. updated in 1976 The board primarily administers the SSC and HSC tests, which are given to students in the 10th and 12th grades, respectively. In India, it comes in just behind the Central Board of Secondary Education in terms of high school enrollment. In order to solve various secondary education-related difficulties in the state of Maharashtra, "Maharashtra State Secondary Education Boards" were founded on January 1, 1966. Due to amendments to the Act, the Board's name was changed to "Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education" in 1976. More than 1,400,000 and 1,700,000 pupils, respectively, sit for the Board's main exams for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC). Three times a year, in March, July, and October, exams are routinely administered.
