The recruitment for direct officer level entry in the Indian Navy is carried out through four major stages.

All of these stages are qualifying in nature i.e. the candidate needs to clear the previous stage in order to appear for the next. The INET selection process consists of the following stages:- INET Computer Based Written Examination
- SSB Interview
- Medical Examination

INET Computer Based Examination
The shortlisting of candidates for the SSB Interview will take place through the INET(Officer) examination.
The Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) is a computer-based written examination.
The exam consists of four different sections namely English, General Knowledge, Reasoning & Numerical Ability, General Science & Mathematical Aptitude.
Each section will carry 100 marks.
Candidates need to qualify every section by scoring at least 40% marks.
The exam will consist of multiple-choice questions only.
The candidates will be selected for the SSB interview on the basis of INET rank cum preference & choice.
The shortlisted candidates will be informed through their registered email ID and contact number regarding their selection.
INET Selection Process 2022 - SSB Interview
The Service Selection Board (SSB) interview is much more than a conventional and usual interview. The SSB lasts for multiple days. The candidates are tested for their OLQs (Officer Like Qualities) in their personality in this interview. The interview consists of two major stages:
- Stage I: The stage I interview consists of an Intelligence Test, Picture Perception, and Discussion test.
- Stage II: The second stage will include tests like Psychological testing, Group testing, and interview.
INET Selection Process 2022 - Medical Examination
The candidates who will clear all the phases of selection will be tested for their medical fitness. The medical examination is an extensive process. The medical examination is an intricate process and hence may last for 4-5 days. At the end of the examination, the candidates will be declared either Fit, Temporarily Unfit, or Permanently Unfit. Some of the following defects which may result in a rejection are as follows:
- Knock Knee
- Flat Foot
- Kidney Stones
- Color Perception
- Sweaty Palms
- Pigeon Test
- Carrying angle of Elbow
- Presence of surgically introduced foreign objects in the body.
INET Selection Process - Merit List
The medically fit candidates are considered for the merit list.
The merit list is prepared by giving 50% weightage to the score obtained in the INET(O) exam and the remaining 50% to the marks obtained in the SSB Interview.
This merit list will be a national level merit list as it will consider the qualified candidates across the examination centers throughout the country.

Will there be negative marking in the INET exam?
There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer in the exam. However, the candidates must read the instructions related to negative marking in the question paper during the actual exam.
