Important Question from chapter 7 : The Imperial capital Vijayanagara

Q- What impression of the lives of the ordinary people of Vijayanagara can you cull from the various descriptions in the chapter?
A-
Ordinary folks were those who were not involved in the power system. They spoke various languages and adhered to various religious traditions. Small dealers and local merchants made up the group. They lived in cities, trading centres, ports, towns, and villages in the past. Local merchant communities known as kudirai chettis or horse merchants took part in the exchanges.
Peasants, labourers, slaves, and other common folk were included in this category.

"Vipra viodin" was the name given to the labourers. This collection of ironsmiths, goldsmiths, carpenters, sculptors, and others who frequently fought each other for their rights. It appears that throughout that time period, a need for laws to be enacted in order for society to carry out social justice was felt. The weavers, also known as Kaikkol, were in vast numbers. They dwelt in the vicinity of temples. They played an important part in the temple's management. There were Gadarias known as Kambalattar in Vijayanagara state. Polyandry was a way of life for them. The wife was older than the husband, which was a unique feature. Their wives had physical intercourse with their husband's relatives, such as his father and brothers.

The area was possessed by the reddis, an orthodox bigot segment of Vijayanagara. They possessed enough clout in Vijayanagara's Telugu region. There were a few non-influential low-class persons in the society. Domber, Marva, Jogi, Paraiyan, Boi Kallaar, and others were among them. Under the influence of the Portuguese, several low-caste people turned to Christianity.
