Signal jammers are illegal for private enterprises to use or buy in India, according to a ministry advisory.

On July 1, 2022, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which is part of the Ministry of Communications, issued a warning to the general public on the proper usage of wireless boosters, repeaters, and jammers.

According to the advice, using a GPS blocker, cellular signal jammer, or other signal jamming equipment is generally prohibited, with the exception of specific circumstances when the Indian government has granted permission. But according to the advice, private companies and individuals are not permitted to use or buy jammers in India.

The use or acquisition of jamming devices by private sector organizations in India is prohibited.

 Jammers cannot be sold, advertised, or distributed in India without the government's consent.

Anyone other than authorized Telecom Service Providers is not permitted to own, sell, or use a mobile signal repeater or booster.

A type of amplifier called a mobile signal booster is used to augment cell phone signal reception. However, unauthorized usage of signal boosters can negatively affect the quality and coverage of public telecommunications services. Mobile phone users may experience inconvenience as a result, and access to emergency services may be restricted.

Jammers can only be used and purchased by states, UTs, the Defense Forces, and Central Police Organizations, and only those models that have been sanctioned by the Indian government.

After receiving previous approval from a competent body, the exam conducting organizations are also permitted to install approved models of jammers from authorized manufacturers.
