The following innovations took place in printing technology in the nineteenth century : Power-driven cylindrical press by Richard M. Hoe of New York : This was capable of printing 8,000 sheets per hour. It was useful for printing newspapers. Offset Press : This could print up to six colours at a time. Electrically operated presses : These further accelerated printing operations. Other developments : Methods of feeding paper improved. The quality of plates became better. Automatic paper reels and photo electric controls of the colour register were introduced. All the above innovations transformed the appearance of printed texts.
