Describe the distribution of copper in India. What are its uses and what is the position of India regarding its availability ?
Copper is found in the Balaghat mines (Madhya Pradesh), Singbhum district of Jharkhand and Khetri mines in Rajasthan. The Balaghat mines produce 52 per cent of India’s copper. However, India is critically deficient in the reserve and production of copper. Copper is malleable, ductile and a good conductor and is, therefore, mainly used in electrical cables, electronic and chemical industries.
