how did Douglas mature that he conquered the old terror?
Alone in the pool, Douglas was still terrified. The remnants of the old terror would come back, but he would reprimand him and go to another length of pool...he still wasn't satisfied. So he went to Lake Wentworth, New Hampshire, and jumped off the docks on Triggs Island, over which he swam two miles. He had questions. So he went to Mead Glacier, jumped into Warm Lake, swam back to the opposite shore. That's how he made sure he overcame an old fear.
