What is heterospory? What is its significance?
Heterospory refers to the production of two kinds of spores in pteridophytes eg. Salvinia and selaginella produce two kinds of spores macrospores and microspores. These mega and microspores germinate and then give rise to male and female gametophytes. The female gametophyte is retained on the parent sporophyte for a variable period of time. So, this event is a precursor to seed habit.
