Why are lysosomes called “suicidal bags”?
Lysosomes are sac-like structures that contain numerous digesting enzymes and are confined by a single membrane. When these enzymes are released from lysosomes, they cause various cytoplasmic structures to break down. Suicidal sacks of cells aid in the digestion of food particles, other foreign materials, and old worn-out organelles of the cell, often resulting in cell death.
