Tapetum is the innermost layer of the microsporangium. It offers nourishment to the growing pollen grains. During microsporogenesis, the cells of tapetum produce numerous enzymes, hormones, amino acids, and other nutritious cloth required for the improvement of pollen grains. It additionally produces the exine layer of the pollen grains, which consists of the sporopollenin.
