(a) When an atom profits an electron, its length increases. When an electron is added, the quantity of electrons is going up through one. This effects in an boom in repulsion some of the electrons. However, the quantity of protons stays the same. As a result, the powerful nuclear fee of the atom decreases and the radius of the atom increases. (b) When an atom loses an electron, the quantity of electrons decreases via way of means of one at the same time as the nuclear rate stays the same. Therefore, the interelectronic repulsions withinside the atom decrease. As a result, the powerful nuclear rate increases. Hence, the radius of the atom decreases.
