Palisade parenchyma is a type of mesophyll cell present in dorsiventral leaves.  In dicotyledons, mesophyll in leaves consists of two kinds of parenchyma palisade parenchyma and spongy parenchyma. Palisade parenchyma is found in leaves just under the epidermis and cuticles. They are vertically elongated and are arranged parallel to each other. They are different from the spongy mesophyll cells present underneath them, which are oval and loosely packed. Their chloroplasts consume a large portion of the light energy needed by the leaf
