What is the work done by the field of a nucleus in a complete circular orbit of the electron? What if the orbit is elliptical?

The electrostatic field is a conservative field, the work done by it depends only on the initial and final positions of the charged particle.  In a complete cycle of the electron work done will be zero irrespective of the shape of the orbit, so in both the cases the work done will be zero.
