List the Differences Between Gametogenesis and Embryogenesis.
Gametogenesis is the formation of haploid gametes, both male and female. In plants it takes place in gametangia while in animals it takes place in gonads. It is of two types depending on the type of sex cells produced – spermatogenesis and oogenesis. The two main phases involved in gametogenesis are – maturation and cell division. Embryogenesis is the formation and development of a multicellular embryo from a unicellular zygote. It commences with the uniting of the male and female gamete to produce the zygote, a diploid cell. The embryonic phase in humans lasts up to 11 weeks after which the foetal development commences.
