What is meant by the Germplasm Collection? Describe its significance in plant breeding programmes
Germplasm collection refers to the gathering of all the different alleles of all the genes in a crop plant. Germplasm supplies the whole set of genes and alleles, as well as the characteristics that they express, in plant breeding programs. Plant breeders choose the most advantageous characteristics of a gene and manage its transmission to the desired parent which depicts the significance of the programme.
