Why does the sky appear blue to us?

The size of air molecules is smaller than visible light wavelengths. They scatter shorter wavelengths of light more effectively than longer wavelengths. The wavelength of red light is 1.8 times that of blue light. Hence, the sky seems blue as a result of this.
