Give a reason for Permanganate titrations in presence of hydrochloric acid are unsatisfactory.

Because hydrochloric acid is oxidised to chlorine, permanganate titrations in the presence of the acid are unreliable. In preparative organic chemistry, this is a preferred oxidant.
