Give reason phenols do not give protonation reaction readily.

Protonation is difficult to achieve using phenol. Through resonance, the lone pair on oxygen O−HO−H in phenol is shared with the benzene ring. As a result, phenols do not undergo protonation reactions because a lone pair is not entirely present on oxygen.
