The allosteric site is a molecule's ability to stimulate or inhibit (or turn off) enzyme activity. It's not the same as an enzyme's active site, which is where substrates bind. When allosteric activators attach to the allosteric site, the enzyme binds to the substrate more efficiently, and the process speeds up.
