Cloning vectors: Plasmids and bacteriophages are the commonly used vectors Presently genetically engineered/ synthetic vectors are also used for easily linking the foreign DNA and selection of recombinants from non-recombinants. The following features are required to facilitate cloning in a vector: (a) Origin of replication (Ori) (b) Selectable marker (c) Cloning (Recognition) site (d) Small size of the vector.
