When 3.0g of carbon is burnt in 8.00 g of oxygen, 11.00 g of carbon dioxide is produced. What mass of carbon dioxide will be formed when 3.00g of carbon is burnt in 50.00 g of oxygen? Which law of chemical combination will govern your answer?

When 3.0 g of carbon is burnt in 8.00 g of oxygen, 11.00 g of carbon dioxide is produced. Thus carbon and oxygen are combined in the ratio of 3 : 8 to give 11g of carbon dioxide . Hence for 3 g of carbon and 50 g of oxygen, 8 g of oxygen is used and 11g of carbon is formed while 42 g of oxygen is left unused.
