Why do copper vessel lose shine when exposed to air ?
Copper corrodes by oxidation in which it reacts with oxygen to form copper oxide, which further reacts with carbon dioxide and forms copper carbonate, which is the green colour that forms on the surface of copper which is known as verdigris. Thus copper loses its lustre.
