Though carbon dioxide is inert and harmless gas, it is thought to be a serious pollutant. Why?

Carbon dioxide absorbs IR radiations from atmosphere which lead to global warming. So, if carbon dioxide level increases beyond 0.03%, the natural greenhouse balance may get disturbed. So it is considered as serious pollutant.
