Option B. Cohesion force is the intermolecular force which helps in the adhesion of molecules present in a same matter. It is a form of attractive force. ∙ It is also present among the water molecules in order to maintain the continuity of the water. ∙ This Cohesive force in the water molecules is essential for the ascent of the sap because of higher transpiration rate. ∙ The force allows the water molecules to resist the separation between them and it arises because of the hydrogen bond between the water molecules. ∙ The ascent of the sap also occurs when the water potential of the guard cells decrease is as compared to the surrounding cells ∙ To neutralize water potential is provided from the neighboring cells that creates a pull in the xylem vessels.
