Which one of the following is correct? (2015) (a) Serum = Blood + Fibrinogen (b) Lymph = Plasma + RBC + WBC (c) Blood = Plasma + RBC + WBC (d) Plasma = Blood – Lymphocytes
Option C. Lymph has a similar composition to blood plasma and when initially formed, lymph is relatively colourless. Depending on where the lymph travels, the lymph will contain different concentrations of lymphocytes, proteins and fats. Lymph contains a variety of substances, including proteins, salts, glucose, fats, water, and white blood cells. Unlike blood, lymph does not normally contain any red blood cells. Blood plasma is composed of plasma, RBC, WBC and platelets. In blood, the serum is the component that is neither a blood cell (serum does not contain white or red blood cells) nor a clotting factor; it is the blood plasma with the fibrinogens removed.
