How do faults produce earthquakes?

Faults permit the rock fragments that form the Earth’s crust to go about. Over a period of time, plate motion builds up pressure, causing rocks along a fault to bend or damage with a jolt. This surprising movement releases electricity that strikes thru the surface of the Earth in the structure of waves. This is an earthquake. The strength strikes out in a circle from the point where the movement occurs.
