Are black panthers also big cats?
Black panthers are definitely black leopards or jaguars. They are the end result of a condition called melanism that is common among jaguars and leopards. This is when the black pigment referred to as melanin in the root of the fur is produced in large quantities. It is this situation that gives black panthers their colour. A few leopards and jaguars have less melanin than average. This offers them a greyish colour, and they are frequently regarded as white leopards or white jaguars.
