What was a castle?
A fortress changed into the home and fort of a lord or king. They had ramparts from which infantrymen may want to attack the enemy if the citadel turned into besieged. Many human beings except the lord lived in it, including servants, squaddies, cooks, blacksmiths and falconers. Cows, horses, pigs and chickens have been also stored there for food.
