Who compiled Guru Granth Sahib? Why is it called the living Guru?
The Guru Granth Sahib which is composed in Gurumukhi script was compiled by Guru Arjan Dev who was also known to be the fifth Guru of Sikhism. He constructed the Granth by compilation of Guru Nanak Dev hymns along with various successors like Kabir das, Ravi das, Baba Farid, in the Adi Granth sahib located in Punjab. This was further amassed by tenth guru Gobind Singh who included works of ninth Guru teg Bahadur in form of couplets. Guru Arjan Dev's works highlighted the fundamental unity of all religion as he included the hymns, songs, and a wide variety of sages who belonged to different periods especially from the 12th to 17th century. He also talked about the socio-economic and political conditions people faced during these periods. This book is also known as ‘living Guru’ as it helps people to gain spiritual guidance which will lead them towards a harmonious life and will help them to attain answers to be morally upright.
