What was 'Directory'?
The directory’ is simply a committee which was also known as the Directorate. It was established on 2nd November 1795 and dissolved on 10th November 1799. It was overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte in the coup thereafter, replaced by the ‘French Consulate’. ‘Directory’ refers to the executive of five members who were appointed by two legislative councils.
