What circumstances led to the foundation of 'scientific forestry' by the German expert Dietrich Brandis?
Consider the following points: Brandis felt that there is a need to train people in the science of conservation and for that, a proper system has to be there to manage forests. In 1864 he set up the Indian Forest System and in 1865 helped to formulate Indian Forest Act. To teach the system of ‘scientific forestry’ Dietrich set up The Imperial Forest Research Institute at Dehradun in 1906.
