Can you suggest a method to remove oil (hydrocarbon) from seeds based on your understanding of rDNA technology and chemistry of oil?
Synthesis of oil in plants is a complex process mediated by a number of enzymatic steps. These enzymes are protein molecules that are encoded by the genes in plant genome. Therefore, to remove oil from a plant, first the metabolic pathways and enzymes involved in its syntheses need to be identified. This then is correlated at gene level. Once the position of genes are identified, specific endonuclease sites close to the ends of genes are used to remove the genetic fragment from the plant cell. The ends are resealed and cells are grown aseptically on controlled nutrient medium. A whole plant can be obtained in this manner. The seeds produced from such plant would be devoid of oil. rDNA technology can be used to get oil less seeds. The genes encoding oil synthesizing enzymes are removed using endonuclease from the genetic material of plant cells. The ends are resealed and cells are grown aseptically on controlled nutrient medium. A whole plant can be obtained in this manner.
