Hibernation is a period of inactivity and slowing down of metabolic activity of some animals during winter. It is also called winter sleep and has a longer duration. Aestivation is a period of inactivity and slowing down of metabolic activity of some animals during summer. It is also called the summer sleep and has a shorter duration.
