Write a short note on (b) Adaptations of plants to water scarcity
Adaptations of plants to water scarcity Plants lives in deserts are well adapted to manage the scorching heat of the desert and the water scarcity. Plants have a widespread root system to tap underground water. They bear dense cuticles and settled stomata on the surface of their leaves to decrease transpiration. In Opuntia, the leaves are adapted into spines and the photosynthesis process is performed by green stems. Desert plants have special paths to synthesize food, known as CAM. It allows their stomata to persist closed throughout the day to decrease loss of water by transpiration.
