Explain the basis for grouping organisms into five kingdoms.
Explanation In the five kingdom classification system all the living organisms are grouped into following kingdoms. I. Monera II.Protista III.Fungi IV.Plantae V.Animalia Cell structure, mode and source of nutrition and body organisation are the factors on the basis of which classification has done. A. Cell structure: All living organisms are divided into two broad categories on the basis of presence or absence or membrane-bound organelles. This led to formation of kingdom Monera into which all prokaryotes are included. B. Number of cells: Eukaryotes are then divided into unicellular and multicellular organisms on the basis of cellularity. Unicellular eukaryotes are included in the kingdom Protista while multicellular eukaryotes form Fungi, Plantae and animalia. C. Presence or absence of cell wall: Animals are further separated into kingdom Animalia due to lack of cell wall. D. Mode and source of nutrition: Fungi and plants both contain cell wall therefore they are further divided as autotrophic and heterotrophic on the basis of mode of nutrition. Final answer Cell structure, number of cells, presence or absence of cell wall and mode and source of nutrition are the factors on the basis of which organisms were classified into five kingdom system
