There was a constant expansion of agriculture during the Mughal Period. It depended mainly on the monsoons. But artificial systems of irrigation were also devised. There are many instances to prove it such as follows : The state undertook the digging of new canals (Nahar or Nala). The state also undertook the repair of old canals like the Shah-Nahar in Punjab. The farmers used those technologies which harnessed animal power. There was the use of a wooden plough which was light. It had an iron tip or coulter.
