The British gave a lot of attention to the architectural beauty of the buildings and cities. So, they adopted various styles, which are considered historically very important. They reflect the aesthetic ideas of the British and also show that sometimes the British varied from their ideals. Their buildings also express the vision of those who built them. Their buildings expressed their power and authority. For example, the Government House built by Lord Wellesley conveyed the authority of the British. In other words, the attributes of the British power were expressed through their massive structures. They not only reflected the prevalent tastes but also moulded them. They were the symbols of modernity, civilisation and culture.
