A separate organisation known as the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Pune 411004 was constituted in accordance with the provisions of Maharashtra Act No. 41 of 1965. The nine Divisional Boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, which are located in Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nasik, Kolhapur, Amravati, Latur, Nagpur, and Ratnagiri, are responsible for managing the HSC and SSC Examinations in the state of Maharashtra. About 14 lac HSC students and 17 lac SSC students turn up for the main exam, which the Board holds twice a year. It is anticipated that 6 lac HSC and SSC students will take the additional exam. In the entire state, there are about 7000 Higher Secondary Schools/Junior Colleges and 21,000 SSCs (HSC).
