Importance of site indexing

Indexing means that your website is stored in Google's database. This does not mean that you will appear higher in the SERPs. Indexing is driven by predefined algorithms that consider factors such as web user requests and quality checks. You can influence indexing by controlling how spiders discover your online content for Google to rank your website, it must first go through three stages:
  1. Discovery: By processing an XML sitemap and following links to other pages that Google already knows about, search engines discover new and updated pages and queue them for crawling.
  2. Crawl: Google then crawls every page it finds and passes all the information it finds to the indexing process.
  3. Indexing: The indexing process includes analyzing content, rendering pages, and deciding whether to index pages.

Following are the steps for google to index your site before the launch

  1. Your robots.txt file should disallow parameter-based URLs such as duplicate pages, site search results, and variants. Sitemaps are listed in robots.txt and Search Console and contain only self-canonical URLs.
  2. After finishing staging, the meta robot tag is updated to facilitate indexing and following using "Index, Follow".
3. There is no code other than metadata and resources to load the page in the website head. This means you need extra scripts, plugins, tracking tools, etc.
4. Test your spider as Googlebot and see how your website is crawled. Test your "live URL" in Search Console to make sure it renders correctly and doesn't throw any errors.
5. There are internal links to direct spiders to the most important pages in your content, main site navigation.
