How were seals used? What information do they give about Harappan trade?
Seals consist of short scripts and inscriptions inscribed in them. These seals represented the creative and artistic skills of the Harappans. Language of the information written on seals has not been deciphered yet. It provided a lot of information about Harappan civilization representing the pictures of bull, buffalo, tiger, goat, one-horned rhinoceros and elephant with the inscriptions. Seals represented the information about Harappan civilization. It had short scripts inscribed in them with small pictures. They were also used by traders of Harappa as stamps. Seals had been found in different regions which also show that Harappan trade was spread vastly.
The public buildings reflect the values cherished by the people of a particular time and so is true for the people of Indus Valley Civilization as well. The Great Bath which has the large rectangular tank is one of the most important buildings in Mohenjo-daro. The construction of the tank indicates that people were getting perfect in the art of construction and that they valued the ceremonies attached to religion. It shows a possibility of having a ruling class who could build such large structures. The Great Bath in Mohenjo-daro shows the importance given to religion and how construction was done at that time.
