Optical illusion – History in India

इस बीच मैं आपको एक मज़ेदार वाकया सुनाती हूँ. हमारे हिन्दुस्तान में महाभारत एक प्रसिद्द ग्रंथ है..There is a reference in one of the Hindu mythology books, “The Mahabharata” where Duryodhana, the Kaurava prince, comes to meet Yudhishthira (the Pandava Prince) at his palace. दुर्योधन जो इन्डियन मायथोलोजी के सबसे खूबसूरत हीरो श्री कृष्ण का रिश्तेदार भी था.. While walking through the corridors of that mesmerizingly beautiful palace, suddenly he jumped at one place mistaking the carvings on the floor as water, and where he really should have jumped, Prince Duryodhana fell into the pool of water. Princess Draupadi, was watching all this from the window of the palace. She laughed at Duryodhana with sarcasm. And this laughter was the main cause of the war of Mahabharata. By giving the reference of this incident here all, we want to do is to understand the history of optical illusion in India. The time of composition of the book Mahabharata is considered to be 1000 BC. And since then, experiments were being done on the art of producing optical illusions in India. As any visible evidence of that time is not available to us, we will talk on this subject on the basis of foreign evidences.
सच पूछो तो ये Optical illusion है बड़ी मजेदार चीज..न न कोई जादू वादू नहीं ये आर्ट है Optical illusion is actually a kinetic art. This form of art began to emerge before the 20th century. It used to be a very popular art of that time. Then this kinetic art was used in the making of sculptures. In the 50s and 60s, it was made on a flat surface.

What actually is optical illusion

Optical illusion is an illusion in which we see a different object or figure instead of the real one. Optical illusions can also be called hallucinations or delusions.
Simply put, an optical illusion is an illusion caused by the structure of the eye and brain. When light falls on an object, then that light reflects from that object and hits our eyes. Then the light rays fall on the cornea, pupil and lastly an inverted image is formed on the retina. The optical nerves carry that message to the brain and as a result, that object is visible to us. Actually, whatever we see, we see due to the balance of the internal structure of both the eye and the brain. When the rays of light fall on the rod cells and cone cells located in the retina of our eye, chemical changes occur in them, as a result of which the electrical waves are generated and they reach the optic centre of the brain located at the back of our heads through the optic nerve. At the same time that the eyes transmit images to the brain, optical illusions are created due to the complexity of the way the images are transmitted. Optical illusions occur when certain images are presented in more than one way and our eyes cannot see it clearly because the brain can assimilate only one image at a time, thus a state of confusion arises in front of us.
