The acronym ESIC stands for Employees' State Insurance Corporation, which operates as a legislative entity under the ownership of the Government of India's Ministry of Labor and Employment. The financial management of ESIC is carried out in accordance with the regulations outlined in the ESI Act of 1948.
ESI Act
The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), established by the ESI Act, operates as an independent corporation under the Government of India's Ministry of Labor and Employment.
Being a recognized entity, the corporation has the authority to secure loans and undertake actions to repay them with prior approval from the central government.
It is entitled to acquire both movable and immovable property, with all resulting revenues vesting in the corporation.
ESIC has the option to establish hospitals independently or in collaboration with state governments or private entities.
However, a significant number of dispensaries and hospitals are operated in conjunction with associated state governments.
ESIC Structure
The appointment of the ESIC Director-General is made by the Central Government. The corporation's executive authority is vested in a standing committee comprising ESIC members. Additionally, there exists a Medical Benefits Board responsible for advising the ESIC on medical benefit-related matters.
