General knowledge is one of the most important sections and is common to all the law entrance examinations.
It carries a weightage of 35-40 marks out of the total of 150 marks in the CLAT exam and 35 marks in the AILET exam.
GK section comprises Static GK(History, Geography, Indian Polity, General Science and some miscellaneous topics) and Current affairs.
An aspirant should lay special emphasis on Current affairs as its weightage has been increasing every year and now forms a very major part of the questions asked in the CLAT and AILET Exam.
This section is very scoring and usually takes lesser time to attempt than other sections in the exam.
Reading Current affairs might seem a difficult task initially but by following these simple and easy steps you can score very well in the exams:
1) ANALYSE PAST YEAR PAPERS:
Start your preparation by analysing the GK section form the past year pacers. This will help you in developing an understanding of the topics one needs to cover while your preparation. This activity can also be very helpful to identify the weightage of the important topics and to observe the changes in the exam pattern.
2) UNDERSTAND THE SYLLABUS AND IDENTIFY IMPORTANT TOPICS:
Most of the Newspapers and magazines that aspirants go through aren’t CLAT-oriented and hence carry a vast amount of information. To make sure that you do not waste a lot of time while going through them it is very important to have a clear understanding of the syllabus and the important topics.
3) READ A NEWSPAPER DAILY:
Reading a newspaper daily will keep you updated with all the latest happenings. Along with news articles, most of the newspapers also contain high-quality editorials which play an important role in improving the understanding of current issues. Apart from GK, it is also very helpful in improving English and Critical reasoning skills.
4) STUDY MONTHLY/ YEARY COMPENDIUMS:
Compendiums make your job easier as they are CLAT-oriented and are a collection of the news that may be asked in the exam.
5) SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON CURRENT LEGAL GK:
Most of the law entrances lay a special emphasis on the legal news. Hence it is highly recommended to keep track of all the important cases and courtroom happenings throughout the year.
6) PREPARE YOUR OWN NOTES:
Even though a lot of material is available on the subject it is very important to make your own notes. This will prove to be very useful for last-minute revision before your mock tests and exams.
