MPSC Exam Pattern 2022

MPSC state services exam is conducted in three stages:
  • Preliminary Exam
  • Mains
  • Interview

Candidates have to clear all the three stages in order to be finally selected for the post.

MPSC Exam Pattern: Preliminary Exam

  • There are two papers in the preliminary exam- Paper I and Paper II.
  • Questions are objective in nature.
  • The time duration of each paper is 2 hours.
  • There is negative marking. For every incorrect answer 1/4 marks are deducted.

MPSC Exam Pattern: Mains Exam

There are six papers in MPSC Mains Exam. Paper I and Paper II are language papers while Paper III, Paper IV, Paper V and Paper VI are General Studies papers. There are no optional papers in MPSC Exam. Paper I is descriptive in nature while all the others are objective. The detailed exam pattern is as follows:

The detailed MPSC syllabus for the different stages of the examination is as follows:

MPSC Syllabus: Preliminary Exam

Paper I
  1. Current events of state, national and international importance.
  2. History of India (with special reference to Maharashtra) and Indian National Movement.
  3. Maharashtra, India and world geography – Physical, Social, Economic geography of Maharashtra, India and the World.
  4. Maharashtra and India – Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Urban Governance, Public Policy, Rights Issue, etc.
  5. Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
  6. General issues on Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  7. General Science

Paper II
  1. Comprehension
  2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  3. Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  4. Decision-making and problem-solving
  5. General mental ability
  6. Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level)
  7. Marathi and English language comprehension skills (Class X/XII level) Questions relating to this will be tested through passages from Marathi and English language without providing cross translation thereof in the question paper.

  • Essay writing – An essay on one out of the two given topics/subject (About 400 words)
  • Translation – English paragraph to be translated into Marathi, approximately 1/2 page/2 paragraphs
