Important Question from chapter 7 :  Mass media and Communication

Q- Trace out the changes that have been occurring in the newspaper industry? What is your opinion on these changes?
A-
. It is commonly assumed that as television and the internet become more popular, print media will become obsolete. The circulation of newspapers in India, on the other hand, has increased. New technologies have aided in increasing newspaper production and distribution. A slew of glossy magazines have also made their impression on the market.
There are numerous factors behind the expansion of Indian newspapers.
There are numerous factors behind the expansion of Indian newspapers.
1.The number of literate persons migrating to urban areas is increasing. In 2003, the Hindi daily 'Hindustan' printed 64,000 copies of its Delhi edition, which increased to 425,000 in 2005. The reason for this was that 52 percent of Delhi's population of one crore and fprty seven lakh came from the Hindi area of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Of those interviewed, 47 percent came from a rural background, and 60% were under the age of 40.
The requirements of readers in small towns and villages differ from those in cities, and Indian language publications respond to those need. Malayala Manorama and Eenadu, two of the most widely circulated Indian language newspapers, pioneered the concept of local news by introducing district and, where necessary, block editions. Another famous Tamil newspaper, Dina Thanthi, had always used simple and colloquial language.
3.Indian language newspapers have experimented with supplements, pull-outs, and literary and attractive books, as well as modern printing technology.
4.The Dainik Bhaskar group's rise has also been defined by marketing methods such as consumer engagement programmes, door-to-door surveys, and research. As a result, modern mass media must have a structured organisational structure.
•While English newspapers, known as National Dailies, circulate throughout the country, vernacular newspapers have seen a significant increase in distribution in the states and across the country. In order to compete with electronic media, newspapers, particularly English-language newspapers, have decreased prices while also releasing editions from multiple locations.
•Technology's role in newspaper production has shifted.
•Many people anticipated that the rise of electronic media would lead to a reduction in print media circulation. This is not the case. It has indeed grown. This has frequently resulted in price reductions and a growing reliance on ad sponsors, who in turn have a greater say in the content of publications.
•Newspapers have evolved into a consumer product, and everything is for sale as long as the numbers are large.
