  • ON THIS VERY DAY in 1498, Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama arrived at Calicut, India being the first European to head to India by sea through the Cape of Good Hope in the southern end of great Africa
 After a 23-day long voyage around the vast Indian Ocean, the Ghats and Mountain ranges of India were seen, and Calicut was boarded on May 20. Vasco da Gama erected a padrão to prove that he had reached India. The Zamorin, the Hindi king, of Calicut (now Kolkata), welcomed him as he discovered the most significant sea trading center in southern India.

Additionally, staining was the writing surface (usually on animal skin or paper) was obvious. The fountain pen was a literal revolution. Using this, there would be no staining, no need to refill the ink reservoir, no need for extra time to wait for the ink to be dried, and refill it whenever needed :)
 
  • ON THIS VERY DAY in 1959, Japanese-Americans were set to regain their citizenship. 
 In 1952, Senate and House voted on the McCarran-Walter Act, which allowed Japanese immigrants to become natural U.S. citizens. However, significant Japanese immigration did not happen. The Immigration Act of 1965 ended 40 years of bans and barring against immigration from Japan and other countries. 
 
  • ON THIS VERY DAY in 1927, Saudi Arabia becomes independent from the oppression of Britishers by signing the Treaty of Jeddah (capital of Saudi Arabia). 
 Today in history on 20th May, the signed Treaty of Jeddah was negotiated between Ibn Saud and a British special deployed envoy Gilbert Clayton. It placed Saudi relations with Britain on a permanent reeling as the British fully acknowledged Saudi independence. A series of Muslim conferences sponsored by the Saudis in the Hejaz (holy lands) was legitimized.

 Yes, the one from the famous trio Lal BAL Pal, and writer of the history of modern India, who was an Indian nationalist, writer, orator, social reformer, and Indian independence movement activist, took his last breath and headed to his final abode this day.
