A brief history of US Open tennis Championship
The US Open Tennis Championship is a tough court tennis tournament.
Since 1987.The US Open has, chronologically, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year.
The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, the French Open and the Wimbledon tennis tournament.
The US Open begins on the last Monday in August and lasts for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday.
The tournament is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, originally known as the United States National Championship, where men’s singles and men’s doubles were played in August 1881.
Since 1978, the tournament has been held on hard acrylic courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, New York.
The US Open is owned and organized by the United States Tennis Association (USTA), a non-profit organization, and Patrick Galbraith is President of the US Openn.
Revenues from ticket sales, sponsorships and TV contracts are used to developOpenis in the United States.
