Reach of national ayushmaan mission yojna( PMYAY)

The 28 states and 8 territories of the union of India make their own choice regarding their participation in Ayushman Bharat Yojana. In February 2018, when the program was announced, 20 states pledged to join. In September 2018, shortly after launch, several states and territories refused to participate in the program. Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu initially refused to participate because they each had their own public health programs. These states then joined Ayushman Bharat Yojana with special exceptions to integrate it into their existing infrastructure.

Similarly, despite Kerala having its own health program it agreed to start using Ayushman Bharat Yogana from November 2019. West Europe initially joined the program, but later withdrew in favor of establishing its own regional health program. Telangana did the same. Since January 2020, Odisha has not joined the program.
